How to Add Volume to Flat Hair
Just because you have flat, lifeless hair, it doesn't mean you have to be stuck with it. You can give you hair added volume by cleverly styling it and by using the right products for your hair type. All it takes is a little time and effort.
Start with the basics
Before you attempt to volumize your hair by styling it, visit your hairdresser for a hair analysis. He or she will be able to recommend the best products to help add volume to your locks. You can also try purchasing shampoos and conditioners in store, that are made to give you extra volume. If you've tried all of these already and they haven't worked, you have nothing more to lose by getting salon quality products from your hairdresser. These often work better as they are concentrated with stronger formulations.
Invest in a hair volumizing treatment
Shampoos and conditioners are your hair care starting blocks, but you will also need to invest in a product that is specifically formulated for adding volume to your hair. Try a mask or an in-salon treatment specific to this.
Clever drying
Although using a blow-dryer can damaged your hair, letting it dry naturally can often result in flat, lifeless hair. If you are totally against blow-dryers, allow your hair to half dry naturally and then blow-dry the remaining fifty percent. Using a round, blow-drying brush, blow-dry your hair from the root downwards, tucking the brush under as you dry. This will add volume to your hair and help to plump it up at the roots.
Be a curly Sue
Although curlers are often used to curl hair, they can be used on flat lifeless hair as well to add more volume. After blow-drying your hair, before you do your makeup, wrap the tops of your head or your crown in large curlers. Keep them on while you do your makeup, and when you're done, let them loose. You can brush them out on the ends, but these work wonders for volumizing the hair.
Spray and secure
Keeping your volume may be another tricky part, but you can help it to last a little longer with spritz of lasting hold hairspray. Hold the hairspray can an arm's length away and spray onto your hair from the top. This will ensure you get enough spray to hold without flattening your hair.
