What is Alcoholism?

A disease featuring the habitual or repetitive consumption of alcohol in quantities that threaten health, prejudice work performance, disrupt relationships and endanger personal safety and the safety of others. There is controversy as to whether alcoholism is the result of a pre-existing personality defect, which can be temporarily assuaged by alcohol, or the result of excessive drinking.
