What is Alexander Technique?

A method of improving an individual's posture and movement, based on the idea that there are 'correct' and 'incorrect' methods of standing, sitting and moving — which may vary according to the person. Use of the correct method, which mainly involves keeping the neck and spine straight, is said to benefit physical and mental health. The technique is not an exercise program, but requires practice and experiment with the guidance of a tutor. Nothing in the technique conflicts with orthodox medical opinion, and it has the respect, though not the unqualified approval, of physicians.
