What is Arcus Senilis?

Arcus senilis is a common eye pigmentation disorder in which there is deposition of fats around the edge of the iris in the elderly and those with abnormally high blood fat levels. A white ring can be seen around the iris of both eyes, but vision is unaffected. The blood fat levels of the patient should be checked, but no diagnostic tests are necessary. There is no cure, but it is a mild cosmetic problem only, says Dr. Warwick Carter in his book The Complete Family Medical Guide.
