Where Is Aruba and What
Is It Known For?

A natural bridge, Aruba.

The most southwesterly of the islands in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean, Aruba lies just off the coast of Venezuela. Together with Bonaire and Curaçao, this 33km-long island forms a group referred to as the ABC islands of the Leeward Antilles, the southern island chain of the Lesser Antilles. Aruba is densely populated with its estimated 103,000 people.

Aruba, which has no administrative subdivisions, is one of the four constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands, together with the Netherlands, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten. Aruban citizens hold Dutch passports.

Unlike much of the Caribbean region, Aruba has a dry climate and an arid, cactus-strewn landscape. This climate has helped tourism as visitors to the island can reliably expect warm, sunny weather. Aruba offers tourists everything they need to alleviate stress including the thrill of water sports, the exhilaration of horseback tours through gorgeous scenery, evenings filled with scrumptious cuisine at restaurants and the excitement of dancing the night away.

Tourism, offshore finance and oil refining are the most important sectors of the economy. The USA is the main trading partner.
