What is Autism?

A rare but severe childhood disorder in which there is a gross deficit in social responsiveness and interaction and an apparent lack of interest in, or unawareness of, the environment. Response to sensory stimuli may be bizarre. Such children do not wish to talk and sign language may be helpful.
