Four Things to See in Bangkok
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand in Asia. It is an extremely popular holiday destination. These days it has evolved
into a modern and sophisticated hotspot, whilst still retaining authentic Thai charm and culture. Here are some tips on
what to do and see in the vibrant city.
Royal Grand Palace
Otherwise known as the Chakri Maha Prasat Hall, it is a lovely mixture of English and Thai architecture. It was built
by King Rama I in 1781 when he took his capital across the bank from Thonburi. Inside you will find various Throne Halls
and a Royal Decorations and Coin Division.
Bangkoknoi Canal
Take a trip down the beautiful Bangkoknoi Canal. Formerly an agricultural site, it has grown into an industrial and
residential area. By the waterside, you can still see traditional Thai communities.
Government House
Previously called the Norasingh Residence, it was ordered by King Rama I as the residence of General Chao Phraya Ram
Rakop. As the name suggests, the government now own the building and it is used to entertain official government guests.
Rama VI Bridge
Originally intended to be a rail link between the east and west banks of the Chao Phraya river, the bridge was built in
1922 by King Rama VI. It was heavily damaged by bombing in World War II. Repair work began in 1950. The new bridge bears
little resemblance to the original, and was constructed in the style of the "Warren Lype Bridge". It serves road traffic in
addition to being a rail bridge.
