What is a Blood Pressure Test?

The blood pressure test is a quick and painless test, measuring the force of blood on the artery walls as the heart pumps it through the body. This test is advocated for men and women over 18, and measures if your blood pressure is within the acceptable range: at most lower than 140/90mmHg. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, tobacco and exercise for at least 30 minutes before the test.

This test is the best way to assess your risk of high blood pressure, which can damage your heart and arteries which may lead to heart attack and stroke. Keep your blood pressure down by maintaining a healthy weight, following a low fat and low cholesterol diet, exercising regularly and managing your stress.
