Braids Can Lead to Hair Loss

Popular hairstyles such as braids and corn rows can lead to permanent hair loss, according to a University of Cape Town study published in the British Journal of Dermatology.

The study of nearly 2,000 adults and children in South Africa found that one in seven school girls and a third of women where suffering from traction alopecia (gradual hair loss) thought to be caused by the hair being excessively pulled for prolonged periods to achieve the style.
