Makeup Brushes: Caring for Your Makeup Brushes
You’ve spent an absolute fortune building your collection of brushes and tools to help you apply your makeup, but how well do you care for them?
As you already know, a good quality makeup brush costs a pretty little packet. Maintaining your brushes will not only ensure maximal application, but also ensure a life-long use of the brush.
Your makeup brush is also the perfect hiding place for germs and bacteria to lurk and reproduce. Therefore, cleaning your brush is not only essential for general care, but for hygienic reasons too.
Here are a few steps to help you keep your makeup brush in tip-top condition:
- Every week or every second week, wash brushes with a mild shampoo. A good quality brush, made from good quality such as synthetic bristles or pony hair, will not puff out and will keep its bristles intact.
- Gently rub your fingers through the bristles and remove all make up residue from the bristles.
- Rinse the brush and squeeze out any excess water using your fingertips.
- Reshape your brush to ensure that it does not lose its "form".
- Lay your brush flat and allow it to dry naturally. Leaving your brush to dry upright will weaken the glue that holds the bristles together.
Always invest in a good quality brush. The "big name" beauty houses generally have good quality brushes that will last you well into a decade.
