Cheek Implants
High cheekbones are universally considered to be a hallmark of a beautiful face. For those born without high cheekbones, malar implants are the solution; a long, narrow face can be converted into a more desirable oval shape.
Made from medical-grade silicon or a variety of other materials, the implants are inserted over the existing cheekbones through incisions made inside the mouth or lower eyelid, or they can be inserted during a face-lift procedure.
“Post-operative swelling and bruising resolves in a few weeks, but the implants may be somewhat sensitive to touch for several months,” says Dr. Joyce D. Nash in her book What Your Doctor Can’t Tell You About Cosmetic Surgery.
