Chocolate Improves Cardiovascular Health

In the ongoing debate as to whether or not chocolate can be good for you, instructor of nutrition and dietetics at Saint Louis University, Katie Elliot, says chocolate can promote cardiovascular health.

As with green tea and berries, specifically dark chocolate with a 60 percent cocoa content contains antioxidants, which have been shown to reduce blood pressure.

“Most studies used one 40 gram serving — or three large squares of dark chocolate — to show cardiovascular benefit,” said Elliot. “Because one serving packs 200 calories, it should be your one sweet treat for the day and part of a balanced diet. If you just add 200 calories to your daily diet, you will gain weight,” she adds.
