What is a Colonoscopy?

A procedure in which a long flexible tube (a colonoscope) is threaded up through the rectum for the purpose of examining the entire colon and rectum and, if there is an abnormality, taking a biopsy or removing it. The procedure requires a thorough bowel cleansing.
