Higher Copper Intake Linked to Reduced
Lung Strength
University of Nottingham researchers tested 479 people and found those with the highest blood levels of copper have the poorest lung function. Research suggests that the body cannot excrete all of the copper when taken in amounts higher than that found in the diet. Excess copper could be associated with reduced immune function and lower antioxidant status.
Tap water is a major source of the metal, particularly in houses with old copper pipes. If your house is more than 20 years old, use a water filter and take lung-friendly antioxidants vitamin C and selenium to let you breathe easily.
