Eyelid surgery is the third most popular cosmetic procedure, according to a 2004 study conducted by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The survey found that 290,343 Americans opted for blepharoplasty. For women patients over the age of 35, blepharoplasty is the most popular procedure.

Blepharoplasty is so popular because the eyes, often called the “windows to the soul,” are a major part of facial expressiveness. If eyelids are drooping or bulging, the face can look fatigued and old. Blepharoplasty can “freshen up” the eyes and enhance the face. People often consider eyelid surgery before a face lift. Blepharoplasty can yield a remarkable improvement with less cost, risk, and pain, not to mention a shorter recovery period.
