Breast Reduction SurgeryAuthor’s NoteAlthough this article on breast reduction surgery was written with women in mind, it should be noted that men, too, benefit from this type of procedure. Men self-conscious about “gynecomastia” often turn to breast reduction surgery. Gynecomastia, a medical term that comes from the Greek words “women-like breasts,” affects 40% to 60% of men, worldwide. One or both breasts may be affected. The main cause of gynecomastia is not known, although various medical problems and certain drugs have been linked to it. Known causes include: alcoholism, testicular cancer, renal failure, and low levels of testosterone. Drug related causes, which are many, include: amidarone (cordarone), amphetamines, estrogens, marijuana, anabolic steroids, and certain anti-cancer drugs. Research Internet resources for a more complete list. |
