Breast Reduction SurgeryPre-surgery PreparationsBreast reduction surgery, also known as mammoplasty, reshapes, lifts and reduces breast If your medical insurance covers this type of medical procedure, a “predetermination letter” may be required before you have surgery. If so, make sure your doctor knows, and have him or her write the letter for you. You will be given a list of specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery. Follow each instruction carefully including guidelines about eating, drinking, smoking, and which medications and vitamins to avoid. Your doctor may also schedule a mammogram (breast x-ray) before surgery. Although this type of surgery does not usually require a blood transfusion, if a large amount of tissue is going to be removed, your doctor may advise you to have a unit of blood drawn before the day of surgery. That way, if a transfusion is needed, your own blood can be used. Purchase ace bandages or a few quality stretchy sports bras to wear the first few weeks following surgery. Arrange for someone to drive you to and from the surgery; also arrange for someone to be available to help you out for several days after surgery, if you need it. |
