Breast Reduction Surgery

Post-surgery

Directly after surgery, your chest area will be painful and bruised; you may also feel nauseated. Pain medication will be prescribed.

For the first couple of days after surgery you will be required to wear an elastic bandage or surgical bra over the dressings. After that, wear an ace bandage or sports bra for another 1-4 weeks. Do not wear under-wire bras during recovery period.

Research by the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASPRS) reveals the first menstruation following surgery may cause breasts to swell and hurt; this is normal. Painful discomfort in the breasts for several months after surgery is also normal. If pain becomes too uncomfortable, consult your doctor.
