Facelift SurgeryPost SurgeryPain after surgery is usually minimal; pain medication can be prescribed to lessen discomfort. Remember to stay away from medications that can increase bleeding; if you are a smoker, do not begin smoking again until after your doctor has given the okay. You may be required to keep your head as still as possible and elevated for a day or two after surgery to assist healing and keep swelling down. Some numbness of the skin is normal and should disappear in time. After a day or two of rest you should be able to get up, but will have to take it easy for the first week or so. Avoid straining, bending, lifting, sex, and similar activities while recuperating. Also avoid direct sunlight. Be gentle with your face and hair. Most stitches can be removed in 5 or 6 days; stitches or clips along the scalp may take longer. Of course, your doctor will have more specific guidelines to follow. It is important not to rush things; be careful with your face and area around the hairline while it heals. Maintain contact with your surgeon throughout the healing process; return to his or her office for follow-up care at prescribed intervals. Expect to wait several weeks to a month for an accurate picture of how you will look. Temporary unevenness and puffiness is normal. You should be permitted to wear carefully applied makeup to help conceal discoloration several days after surgery. Because healing feels slow and visual results are not immediate, you may experience disappointment or depression. But by the 3rd week, after swelling and bruising dissipates, you’ll feel better, and have more energy too. Click here to continue to Page 8… |
