What Is the Difference Between
Cold and Flu?

Colds and flu are two completely different illnesses caused by different viruses. Flu if far more severe and, unlike the common cold, it can be dangerous and life threatening. While both are highly contagious, the flu can lead to complications such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

The major difference between cold and flu symptoms is the severity and the speed at which they develop. Flu symptoms usually come on quickly (within 3-6 hours) and consist of a fever, body aches, dry cough, and extreme tiredness. Cold symptoms are less severe and are typified by stuffy nose, cough, slight tiredness, and limited body aches.
