Improve Your Digestion, Improve Your Skin
We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to beauty. There is literally a world of lotions, potions and an unlimited supply of beauty products readily available on the market, all claiming to give you better skin. While these external applications are often helpful, you can achieve a healthier, happier and more glowing skin right in your very own kitchen.
Dana McCants, a holistic living expert and founder of Nikkel Holistic Skincare says, “beautiful and blemish free skin is a reflection of a good digestive system”. She also says that a sluggish digestive system and having too few “friendly” bacteria could all result in skin issues such as acne, psoriasis, oily skin and enlarged pores.
So how do you improve your skin with your nutrition? Dana suggests helping “friendly” bacteria to flourish. This can be done by eating fermented foods such as kim chee, kombucha, raw sauerkraut, miso, and kefir.
Ensure your eating habits are balanced and avoid processed foods, sugar and alcohol. Be aware of food labels and steer clear of products that contain MSG, aspartame, as well as the word “hydrogenated”.
