What is Down’s Syndrome?

A severe genetic disorder formerly known as mongolism. It is caused by the presence of an extra chromosome number 21. Affected people have oval, down-sloping eyes, small ears and a large tongue. There is usually some degree of mental retardation but many people with Down's syndrome are able to undertake simple work.
