Dressing Tips for Wider Shoulders

While wide shoulders are definitely a plus to have, women who have them may often find it difficult to dress in a way that wouldn't show off just their shoulders.

If you do have wide shoulders and you want to make them appear slightly narrower, opt for tops that have open, revealing necklines. This will draw the attention off the shoulders and give you a balanced look. Look out for tops with scoop necklines which will be a winning style as opposed to any other cut. Avoid, avoid, and avoid any tops with square necklines or high cut necklines. Polo necks are definitely out.

Avoid tops with added bulk in the shoulder area. So, tops with ruffled shoulders and shoulder pads are a big no-no when dressing to conceal wider shoulders.

Choose vests that have medium width straps and avoid those tops with spaghetti straps. When going for printed tops, try to find a design that has stripes going vertically down. This little trick will create the illusion of length, and draw the eye down and away from your shoulders.

A general rule of thumb if you want to avoid attention to your upper body is to wear lighter colors on the bottom and darker colors on top. Just like the girl who wants to hide her lower half, who would then switch these two around.
