Dry Hair Care: Dealing with Dry, Frizzy Hair

Keeping your hair smooth and shining is not always as simple as the television ads would have us believe. Find out what causes dry, frizzy hair, and learn how to deal with it.

Dry, brittle and frizzy hair is a result of hair that lacks moisture, or water. This hair condition is most common among chemically treated hair, as the chemicals often strip your hair of its natural moisture. People who have naturally curly hair may also, at times, find the frizz unbearable.

This type of hair requires a lot of attention and even more tender, loving care. Start off by using shampoos that are designed specifically for your hair type. This will ensure that some of the moisture remains in your hair, and will give it a silky, sleek texture.

Quick at-home treatments

  • If your hair is extremely dry, you can add a few drops (no more than three) of safflower oil onto your palms, and gently blend it into your hair. Do not start at the roots, rather go from the ends of the hair and work your way upwards in a scrunching motion.
  • Other products include silicone blends, which work really well too. Towel-dry your hair and bend over, flicking your hair forward. Rub a few drops of silicone treatment into your palms and, using your finger, blend it into the hair.

Both of these techniques can help you manage your dry, frizzy hair a little better. If you still find that your hair is unmanageable, chat with your hair stylist. They will be able to recommend salon specific treatments or products that will help.
