What is Fibrillation?

An ineffectual fluttering of any muscle, especially the heart muscle. Fibrillation of the upper heart chambers (atrial fibrillation) causes pulse irregularity; fibrillation of the lower, main, pumping chambers is a form of cardiac arrest and is soon fatal unless reversed.
