What is a Gastric Ulcer?

Ulceration of the lining of the stomach, penetrating into the outer muscle coats of the stomach wall. Gastric ulcers are more likely in middle age or later, and men are more susceptible than women.

Symptoms include a burning, gnawing pain in the upper abdomen or below the left ribs. The pain often comes in bouts and may occur in the early hours of the morning. Pain or nausea may follow soon after taking food.
