Fight Glaucoma with Green Tea
Green tea has long been linked with a vast variety of health benefits. The most common being its powerful cancer fighting and disease preventing antioxidants. Now, scientists have found yet another reason to go green.
In a study published in the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, scientists found that the antioxidant and disease fighting properties of green tea, “catechins”, also penetrate into the tissues of the eye, suggesting that green tea may protect against common eye diseases such as glaucoma.
Experiments performed on laboratory rats indicated that the eye structures absorbed a significant amount of individual catechins. Scientists concluded: “Our results indicate that green tea consumption could benefit the eye against oxidative stress.”
