Gotu Kola: Improve Your Mental Clarity
and Mood

Gotu kola is one of the most important plants in Ayurveda. It is used for a wide spectrum of illnesses ranging from indigestion to dementia. Its name in Sanskrit, brahmi, means consciousness or wisdom. Described in the original Ayurvedic textbooks several thousand years ago, gotu kola is also known to Chinese physicians for its ability to promote longevity.

Gotu kola carries a long-standing reputation as a wound healer and brain enhancer. Gotu kola protects the blood vessels that supply oxygen to the brain, which helps increase the brain’s oxygen supply. Clinical studies have shown that gotu kola improves concentration. In one study students’ test scores improved after taking gotu kola, and in an intriguing clinical study related to learning, 30 children with developmental disabilities who received gotu kola for 12 weeks experienced significant improvements in their attention spans and concentration skills.

Gotu kola has also been shown to have a calming affect on individuals prone to anxiety, and may also be useful in individuals suffering from depression.
