Maple Syrup – A Sweet Source of 20 Disease-fighting Antioxidants
New research by the University of Rhode Island discovered that Canadian maple syrup was linked to 20 antioxidant compounds. Now that’s a sure sweet way to fight off cancers, bacteria and keep the body free of disease.
"We already know the maple tree has strong antioxidant mechanisms," said Dr. Navindra Seeram, an assistant professor of biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences at the Universities’ College of Pharmacy. "Now we are looking more closely at the tree's sap." Several of these antioxidant compounds are also reported to have anti-cancer, anti-bacterial and anti-diabetic properties.
