The Benefits of Red Clover

Red clover

One of the most common plants is also one with valuable medicinal properties!

Red clover has long been used as a blood purifier. It improves circulation, promotes the production of mucous and urine, and stimulates the secretion of bile. The ordinary red flowers of the clover plant contain isoflavones, which can treat a variety of ailments.

Red clover is used for symptoms of menopause, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, cardiovascular blood flow, and diabetes. Because the risk of many diseases is increased with the onset of menopause in women, red clover can be especially beneficial to females. The isoflavones in red clover may slow down bone loss and encourage bone density, thus combating osteoporosis. And because these same isoflavones increase the levels of “good” cholesterol in the blood, it is believed that red clover can help protect against cardiovascular disease.

Because of estrogen-like properties in red clover, women who have had breast cancer should avoid using this supplement. Any person using medications containing hormones (such as birth control pills) should also use caution when considering a red clover supplement. A doctor can outline other precautions, including those for people using blood-thinning medications.
