What is Hilum?

The term that is used to describe a small indentation on the surface of an internal organ where blood vessels, nerve fibers, or other similar structures enter or leave an organ. For example, the hilum of the lung is its junction with the main bronchus and the major vessels.

A commonly used alternative term is “hilus”.
