Nausea is an uncomfortable feeling on the whole, and often ends in what is referred to as “emesis” or “throwing up”. Though unpleasant, vomiting is considered good at times, as during the process of vomiting, it enables the body to get rid of toxic substances.
Spoilt food containing bacteria and germs, illnesses like flu, medications and chemotherapy, excess alcohol consumption, over indulgence in rich food, motion sickness, anxiety and stress and pregnancy are some of the causes of nausea.
There are plenty of natural remedies for nausea. One such effective remedy is ginger. Ginger has been revered in Asia since earliest times and has wide-ranging benefits as an antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory agent. It’s also a great fix for nausea, whether your queasy stomach is caused by PMS, motion sickness or even chemotherapy. Steep a couple of fresh ginger slices in hot water or herbal tea and drink a cupful as often as you need to.
Mint is a soothing herb which can help calm and settle the stomach. Peppermint or spearmint tea can be very effective in soothing nausea. Peppermint oil can also be used as an aromatherapeutic cure.
Carbonated beverages such as soda are frequently used to suppress morning sickness or nausea associated with stomach flu. It is important to sip slowly in order to avoid further upsetting the stomach. In addition, saltine crackers are often effective for settling the stomach.
As for nausea in kids, aloe vera juice helps in combating the stomach ache that accompanies nausea. One tablespoon of the juice can be diluted in six ounces of water and given up to three times a day.
