Hoodia Weight Loss Supplement
A fairly new supplement that has been making headlines lately is hoodia. But what exactly is
hoodia and does it indeed work for weight loss?
Hoodia gordonii is a species of succulent plants resembling a cactus that can reach up
to one meter in height. They have fairly large flowers, a strong smell and are found in
rocky areas of the Namib Desert. The San Bushmen of the Kalahari refer to this plant as
“Xhoba”.

Hoodia is being punted as a great new appetite
suppressant, but does it work?

Hoodia is said to have an active ingredient which can actually suppress appetite and ultimately
lead to weight loss without any known side effects. However, there is a lack of scientific evidence
to back these claims. Despite the lack of scientific studies, the San Bushmen have been eating this
plant for thousands of years and have been able to sustain their hunger during their hunting
expeditions.
Pharmaceutical companies are now trying to isolate P57, the molecule that suppresses
appetite and are trying to create a patented diet drug.
Future research will ultimately determine whether or not this product is safe and/or effective
in suppressing appetite. So, if you’re considering using this product, make sure you read up as
much as possible and don’t forget to get a medical opinion from your doctor.
