What is the Hypothalamus?

The area of the brain immediately above the stalk of the pituitary gland on the middle of the undersurface. This area receives wide connections from other parts of the brain and is closely linked to the pituitary both by nerves and by hormones. Among other functions it acts as the link between the neural and the endocrine control mechanisms.
