The Importance of Calcium
Getting in your daily calcium requirements is crucial for every one of all ages, and neglecting this has far-reaching health consequences.
Calcium plays a vital role in the functioning of all cells in the body. If there isn’t an adequate supply of calcium through diet, your body will draw from its stores (i.e. bone and teeth). Over time, if calcium is continually drawn from bone, this will predispose one to osteoporosis.
Menopausal, pregnant and lactating women are particularly at risk of increased bone loss. Non-pregnant, non-lactating women between the ages of 25 – 50 need 800mg calcium per day. Pregnant and lactating women need 1200 mg per day.
