Is Your Lip Gloss Putting You at
Risk of Skin Cancer?
Although lip gloss may help to enhance the appearance of your lips, making them appear fuller and healthier, how healthy is gloss really?
While most glosses don’t necessarily contain harmful chemicals, their high shine factor is more prone to attracting sunrays. And like all skin, without UV protection, your lips could increase your chances of attaining skin cancer.
“Clear lip gloss induces light transmission to the lip,” says Dr. Christine Brown, a dermatologist at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
This may seem like common knowledge, however, lips are often disregarded when considering sun protection. Even those who are obsessive about applying high factor SPF’s to their face and body, often neglect to consider protection for the lips.
