What is a Lipoma?

A lipoma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumor composed of fat cells. It can be felt beneath the skin as a soft lump that is occasionally painful. Lipomas are more common in women than men. Their cause is unknown. They can be removed by a small operation if they are annoying.
