What is Lumbago?
Severe pain in the lower back (lumbar region) usually felt when lifting or stooping. The pain is often so severe that the patient is stuck in the stooping position. The pain gradually disappears with rest but in some cases it is followed by sciatica, in which case there has probably been some pressure on the sciatic nerve. This condition may be an early sign of a slipped disc.
