Nutmeg Health Benefits

Nutmeg is a spicy, warming herb that is used to flavor baked goods, desserts and other dishes. It is unique among spice plants as it produces two distinct spices — the seed is dried, shelled and sold as nutmeg, while the fleshy outer part produces mace.

Nutmeg, along with pepper and cloves, has been cultivated for over 1000 years. It is rich in potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium, and contains a fair amount of sodium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium. It also contains vitamin A, B6, C and choline. Nutmeg is good for digestion, and is used for respiratory problems.
