What is Paratyphoid?

A highly infectious disease which is a serious cause of food poisoning. It is spread by food or water which has been contaminated by flies that carry the infection from human feces. Some people carry the disease (often in the gallbladder) without having any symptoms, and infection can be passed on by food handled by these carriers. Paratyphoid, like typhoid, is an enteric fever — that is, it affects the intestines. It is less severe than typhoid and the carrier state is less frequent.
