What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?
Around one in ten woman suffer some degree of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), a condition where the ovary develops a tiny swelling, or follicle, inside which an egg is developing, but not to the stage when it is capable of being fertilized. This leads to a build-up of testosterone, which can cause the following symptoms:
- Irregular or light periods or none at all
- Problems getting pregnant
- Weight gain
- Acne
- Increased facial and body hair
