What is Pyelitis?

Inflammation of part of the kidney, the renal pelvis. The cause is usually a bacterial infection (common e-coli) and sometimes it occurs as a complication of pregnancy. Symptoms include pain in the loins, high temperature, loss of weight, but it does respond to antibiotics. Usually the infection is not limited to the pelvis but all the kidney is involved, hence a more accurate term is pyelonephritis.
