Breast Augmentation: Silicone
or Saline?

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported that more than 355,621 breast augmentation surgeries were performed in the United States in 2008. Breast augmentation was also the number one cosmetic surgery procedure that year.

Despite breast implants being the most commonly performed surgery, many women are still unaware of the differences between silicone and saline solutions.

The difference on which option to choose says Dr. Placik, a Chicago based plastic surgeon, depends on your needs. While there are beneficial cosmetic benefits to both types of solutions, it is important to understand what the advantages and possible disadvantages of each are.

This should be determined during your pre-consultation with your plastic surgeon. During this time it is advisable to consider all your options and be sure to ask him or her about any possible side effects before you make your final decision.
