What is Sinusitis?
Inflammation of a sinus, usually referring to the sinuses in the face that link with the nose and may therefore be caused by a spread of infection from the nose. Headaches and a tenderness over the affected sinus are typical symptoms, with a pus-containing discharge from the nose. Persistent infection may necessitate surgery to drain the sinus.
Left-sided maxillar sinusitis marked by an arrow. Note the absence of the air transparency indicating the presence of fluid in contrast to the other side.
