What is Stagnant Loop Syndrome?

Stagnant loop syndrome is the condition when a segment of the small intestine is discontinuous with the rest or when there is an obstruction, either of which causes slow movement through the intestines. The result is bacterial growth with malabsorption and steatorrhoea (passage of fatty stools).
