Strength Training Benefits for Post-Menopausal Women
It pays to get physical when wanting to look and feel younger. Miriam E. Nelson from Tufts University in the US and author of Strong Women Stay Young (Bantam) proved this by taking two groups of post-menopausal women. Over a year, one group was asked to carry on with their usual lifestyle of no exercise, while the other group was asked to lift weights twice a week.
Fast forward one year and the women who did no exercise showed their muscles and bones where even less active than before, while the women who lifted weights showed strength more typical of women in their late 30s and early 40s cheating their real age by between 15 and 20 years.
