What is Subarachnoid Hemorrhage?

Subarachnoid hemorrhage is bleeding into the subarachnoid space, often because of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. Initial symptoms are a severe headache, stiff neck, following by vomiting and drowsiness, and there may be a brief period of unconsciousness after the event. Brain damage is possible but severe hemorrhage may result in death.
