What is Tetanus?

A serious infection of the nervous system caused by an organism that enters the body through a penetrating wound, especially if deep, and produces a powerful toxin which causes muscles to contract violently and may lead to death from exhaustion or asphyxia. Tetanus is easily prevented by immunization, which must be repeated at regular intervals through life.
