Vintage Fashion – What's All the Hype About?
The term "vintage" in fashion is commonly thrown around by celebrity fashion stylists and by even celebrities themselves. Who would have thought that old clothes could become so popular and so very trendy? Drew Barrymore, Winona Ryder and even the very trendy and very stylish, Victoria Beckham are all huge fans of the vintage phenomena.
But what exactly is vintage and why would you want to wear "old" clothes?
Vintage is a style of clothing that is not new, and often times found in second-hand stores or it can even be passed down from generation to generation. Vintage in
terms of fashion is generally an item of good quality clothing that has been around for at least a decade, or perhaps even two or more. Vintage clothes that make their way into modern fashion are usually the classic, clean and simple pieces that can still hold their own next to clothing much younger than them.
Certain vintage clothes could even cost more the older they are, but just like a good piece of antique furniture, the piece has to look in tip-top shape to make it in this exclusive bracket. Having a vintage designer outfit will almost never go out of style and can be passed on to generations, just like a jewel or very extravagant family heirloom.
Not all vintage clothes are designer frocks that have been looked after as though they were children, and those items usually find themselves staying in the past.
It's all about finding a fabulous garment that has character and style and modernizing it with current trends. For example, you could modernize a vintage dress with some chic and current accessories, or update an old, glamorous scarf by wearing it with a classic, tailored suit.
