What Is Heartburn?
Characterized by an uncomfortable feeling of burning in the chest, sometimes with a sensation of the pain spreading up into the throat, jaw, arms or back, heartburn can also leave a bitter or sour taste in the mouth. Other symptoms that can accompany heartburn including asthma (when the stomach acid affects the respiratory tract), hoarseness, chronic cough, or sore throat.
It may be caused by obesity, the late stages of pregnancy or a hiatus hernia, but most often from over-indulging in certain food.
